Hi, my name is Dipankan, but I often go by Dippy. I was born in India and moved to the San Francisco, Bay Area, California in 2000. I attended U.C. Berkeley where I spent 4 years in Dr. Richard Harland's lab, working on projects to establish Xenopus tropicalis as a genetic model organism. Attended James Madison University for a Bachelors degree in Biology. Taught science for 3 years to middle school students in Hartford, CT as part of the Teach For America AmeriCorps program. Rotated in Marc Hammarlund and Janghoo Lim's lab. Pursuing a PhD in Genetics while in Mustafa Khokha's lab doing functional gene analysis on genes with a potential developmental role in heterotaxy.
Alexandra MacColl Garfinkel
Attended Lewis & Clark College for a Bachelors degree double majoring in Biology and Psychology with a focus on Neuroscience. Worked in the lab of Connie Cepko for three years developing gene therapies to combat Retinitis Pigmentosa, a form of genetic blindness, before starting at Yale University. Now pursuing a PhD in Genetics in the Khokha lab, performing functional analysis of disease candidate genes with potential roles in heart development and heterotaxy.
